JUst some quick rating of movies I had watched recently, being freaking busy for last 2 months and alot of things going through my mind. And for that i missed some major summer blockbusters like Transformers 2, Harry Porter and Ternimator Salvation, I hate myself for that. Will give more detailed ratings soon,

Movies

District 9 - 4/5 - I thought it was a freaking good original movie directed by a person who is only 29 and had never make a feature movie before. Too bad the third act of the movie was abit too long and the actions keep going on and on.

Up - 4/5 - I watched this in 3D which I hated which generally deducted 0.25 out of it. But the first half an hour of the movie was genius work and it shows why Pixar is still the motherfucking queen of animation.

The Hangover - 4/5 - Putting Tyson and his tiger in the most hilarious movie i had watched in recent years. It makes me want to buy a ticket to Las Vegas the very minute after watching it.

Public Enemies 2.5/5 - A very disappointing movie from a great director Michael Mann and everybody favourite Johnny Depp, too much like American Gangster, only much more boring then that.

Drag Me to Hell 3.5/5 - Sam Raimi of Spiderman went back to his horror roots and it brings out enough laughs n scare to satisfy my first movie fo a while.

Departures - 3/5 - I thought this was really disappointing for a movie that won the Oscar for Best Foreign movie. It was only soso for me and not as touching as everybody had said. I don't really like the male main lead which I feel his "commercially J idol drama" acting method deducts points for the movie. Overly pretendious and trying more to look suave n good on screen then bringing in the drama emotions in.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall - 3.75/5 This is so freaking hilarious, Russell Brand is so funny that it overshadow the supposely lead Jason Segel in the movie. ANd the 2 female leads in the movies are really cute too.

I Love You Man - 3.5/5 Another bromance movie, not as funny but i thought it was not bad.

Look - 3/5 - An interesting indie movie shot in the point of views of surveillances cameras, you dunno who are watchinbg you...

Crank - 3/5 This movie is really nonsensical but in a good sort of way. The plot is ridiculous but watched it for the edgy editing and camera movements.

Bedtime Stories - 2/5 Adam Sandler one of my favourite comedic actor recent movies is getting from bad to worse. This is really some real boring piece of crap for children below 8. Hope his Funny People will be real good before i give up hope on him.

Pierre Morel is the protege of French movie genius Luc Besson, and this movie totally reeks everything about Luc Besson , it remind you of movies like Leon the Professional, Taxi series and the Transporter trilogy.

The movie started nice and slow, we had a background about Liam Nesson character background, an ex-police spy who works as a preventer, preventing accidents to happen when you see him subduing an attacker from hurting a Miley Cyrus kinda character. Due to his work he also had a strained relationship with his ex-wife and the love of his life, his only daughter.

And once her daughter got kidnapped the movie keep moving non stop and might be the fastest 93 mins movie i even seen. I like this old school kinda action movie, but the movie don't seems to have any sense of logic. In superhero movies, even Spiderman and Batman get injured, but this guy seems to be even more of a superhuman and seems to know more things then God, the longer you watch on the more you think the movie is bullshitting. This guy is like Jason Bourne, James Bond , Jet Li and Albert Einstein combined in 1.

But I think the director managed to do the best he can with the medicore storyline, but the action sequences seems to be reptitive and the other supporting performances are really weak and stereotyping of other characters. I would also recommend another movie Man On Fire by Tony Scott starring Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning, which had a similar movie plot but i think the storyline is much better. Nevertheless it will be a good flick to spend your 93 mins if you had nothing better to do then watching the stupid flicks like Confessional of a Shopaholics or 17 Again.

Revolutionary Road

This is not a film for everyone. If you are just looking to be entertained and have a good time seeing a film, I don't think I would recommend this. It's shows the stark brutal reality of an unhappy suburban couple, and it makes the current glooming economy even more dull. The feeling is like after losing your girlfriend you realise you lost your handphone.

The reason everybody should watch this movie is because the acting is amazing because it's simple and not overdone by the lead actors. Many things are not even said and just played with a flick of emotion across the face. You feel the anguish of the couple, of their boring life, you feel like you are one of them. And when the audience feel what the actors feel, I think the performance deserves to be applaud, especially for Kate Winslet. I think her performance here is even better then her Oscar winning performance in The Reader.

The Chaser
Directed By: Na Hong-Jin (debut)

This story is really unbelievable in the first place, but after realising it is based on a true event, it shows how dumb Koreans are. The movie definely will be compared to other Korean psycho-thriller movie like Oldboy and Memories of Murder by the way it is shot,the way the story slowly unfolds and the gritty look of the whole movie, but this movie is not as good as compared because you cannot believe how stupid the Korean police can be.

The plot line is quite straightforward. A fallen-cop-turned-pimp, suspecting that two of his disappeared "girls" were actually sold by a weird client Jee(the psychopath), sends to him Mi-jin, his favourite prostitute and also a mother of an 8-year-old daughter, as bait. In the midst of torturing Mi-jin, Jee encounters unexpected intrusion, kills and flees. By sheer coincidence he bumps into the pimp who discovers his identity through his cell phone number. And all this happened in just the first half hour of the movie.

Importantly there is a lot of dark humour. The main character is incredibly dry-witted, and is a release valve for the tension in the film. As he carries the film, the acting is important, and both he and the serial killer are exceptionally good. I had never been so tense in a movie for awhile.

But no doubt this movie is one of the better Asian movies I had seen awhile, and no doubt the Korean movie industry is overshadowing the rest of the Asian countries, even Japan.

Gran Torino

Directed By: Clint Eastwood (Unforgiven, Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby)

Rating: 3.75/5

This show is reportely the last movie he will appeared in, and this flick show us how much we will miss him in the future cause he is one hell of an actor. Me personally is biased for Clint Eastwood who appeared and directed some on my favourite movies like Good, Bad and the Ugly, Unforgiven, Million Dollar Baby and the list goes on and on. Cumon, even Gorillaz wrote a song about him!

Firstly the only flaw and the greatest flaw of the show is, none of the actors inside could act except except Clint Eastwood, even the American supporting cast, and the priest was particularly awful. The Asian acting skills are the worst, being real amateurish and bad stereotyping of Asian people.

This movie had lots of memorable and powerful moments where you go completely stoned, and somehow the ending the feelings was very similar to the ones I had when watching Million Dollar Baby.

But Clint, at aged 78, is still looking pretty strong and still reminding us of his Dirty Harry days, he is one of the few people who still carry a movie byself and with his on screen presence. This was a very heart-warming film in my mind throughout. The ending of the film is probably more of an ending to Eastwood's career as an actor rather than that of the movie itself. And he definely end his acting career on a high note.

Slumdog Millionaire
Directed By : Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, 28 Days Later)

One of the most feel good movie I had seen in awhile. Firstly it is amazing that an English director managed to shoot a movie about India and the slums living conditions like he had lived there his whole life.

But I don't like the idea of the two leads Dev Patel and the really cute Indian girl Freida Pinto being shot to superstardom due to the success of the movie. I can say their performances is like the two worst performances in the movie. All the cast are really good, especially the young kids who played the siblings and they had never even acted their whole life. (and who knows, they may not even had watch TV b4)

But the main reason why the movie success is its feel good factor, typically of a Indian Bollywood movie with all its singing and dancing and no doubt the movie deserve all the accolades it got at the Oscars, I think only the Dark Knight even come close as competition to Slumdog, but too bad the pretendious Academy dun like superheroes.

The Wrestler

For a guy who had watched wrestling his whole life and slammed his brother a million times, this is a really brutally honest, emotional movie. Its really like Mickey Rouke playing himself, before his comeback in this movie, having accepting all kinds of minor roles and being in alot of trashy movies.

The supermarket scenes is one of the funniest scenes I had seen in awhile, and I just noticed jokes usually work when people are making fun at themselves. Mickey Rouke should won an Oscar this year had it not been Sean Penn amazing performance as Harvey Milk.

And I really hope Darren Afronosky makes more movies like this, stay grounded to indies and make some more character movies, maybe "The Fucker" since there are so many fuckers around nowadays or "The Arsehole". And I had alot of names in my mind suitable for the roles.

Doubt

This movie give me a dozen million question marks, and it is one of the most wtf-est kind of ending that you will ever seen. And the movie really deserve it title, it gives me Doubt.

From start to end you saw the A List actors doing their job, and its makes you do alot of thinking throughout, is the priest the rapist, does the nun really knows what the priest did, the movie gives you so many questions but never an answer. If the cinema seat was mobile, I might fall off my seat at the ending.

So yes, I was entertained and I applaud the brilliant acting, but I feel more dissatisfied.

Everytime there is a very gay movie, there will always come out an even gay-er movie. While you thought Brokeback Mountain was a breakthrough already for the 2 male leads kissing scenes, this movies see guy kissing every now and then. Where is the love man. I couldn't imagine how gays movies about gays will be in 20 yrs time.

This movie personally to me feels more like a art house flick. I personally not really into documentary style storytelling of movies thus even though I know this is a good mivie, i cannot find myself to love it. THe only thing I am amazed is Sean Penn acting. There is one thing between those so call acting and character actors, Sean Penn is not acting anymore, he is basically being the protaganist character himself. The way he can maintain the balance and consistency manner, you can see heart and soul of the real Harvey Milk in it. (even though i dun even know who the fark is Harvey Milk, i might know his brother Davidson)

Lastly I had to admit Gus Van Sant's direction was superb; he used the technique of blending real footage into the movie footage that we've seen before, but he managed to maintain a nice balance bewteen the 2 that dosen't make us feel like we are watching a documentary. He made everything lively and fresh while not getting in the way of the actors doing their jobs and that's pretty solid.

THis movie is sorta of a flashback of Brad Pitt career history, you get to see his look Ah Beng blonde in Meet Joe Black, short blonde hair in Sevens Yrs in Tibet, his 40s suave look in the Ocean Trilogy. Brad get alot of applaud for his acting but I personally feel it is not he who is acting, its his makeup that is acting. If there is an award for Best Makeup (there really is), this film will sweeps all the makeup awards (this review is proudly sponsored by M.A.C)

Every other performer outperforms him in the movie especially his onscreen adopted mother Queenie who I think steals the show, every scene she appears make me almost tear, andhis partner on screen Cate Blanchett who played every age part of Daisy flawlessly, you could believe her when she still a innocent looking teenage girl (she's actually hitting the big 40 this yr), as the talented graceful dancer in her rebellious 20s, even the 60s when she is taking care of the already baby Benjamin, thats really some solid acting.

I like the way Benjamin Button was born as a old, and grow up living with the old, seeing old people die, having old people as his best friends, this slowly leads the most difficult part of his life, even when he looks like he is in his 20s or 30s, he is still a old man inside his heart, and that shows when he couldn't understand Daisy having so much fun at the party, he had never been to a party.

But the biggest thing that bugs me most about the film is the thing at the core: the relationship between Daisy and Benjamin. It misses something very, very, important: why they fell in love in the first place. It never really explains, you could understand why Brad fall in love with Tilda Swinton Elizabeth, having share their lives and stories waiting for each other every night at the lobby, but why Daisy, she is just another girl in his "childhood".

And i especially hate the montage part b4 Daisy is get knocked by a car, the what if the woman nv buy coffee, and the man nv tie shoelaces Daisy wouldn't have being knocked down. It spoils the whole mood of the movie for me, how the hell will Benjamin know a man in the street was tying a shoelaces.

Nevertheless this movie is good, the whole direction sets up the mood perfectly, the technically aspects really good too, but one thing for this movie, it will never be a great.

A very bad movie month for December for me, all the movies i had watch had not meet my expectations at all, not even close. Though i had miss several movies like the highly shot to fame Twilight (which I bet is as corny as a corn) and the Visitor. January and Febuary is definely the month for movie lovers, as Oscar season is approaching all the great movies are coming to our theatres, watch out especially for Rachel Getting Married starring the very chio ANne Hathaway, Milk aka Sean Penn being gay movie, The Reader, The Wrestler, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamus, Curious Case Of Benjamin Button and the long awaited SLumdog Millionaire. god bless me tt i got time to catch all the movies before Oscar.

So here come some short reviews of the movies I had watch in Dec.

Australia

Directed By: Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge, Romeo & Juliet)

THis movie can might as well called Sweden, Czechoslovakia or Yishun and it don't even matter to me. THe movie plot had nothing much to do with the title at all. Although the movie is beautifully shot (Every frame can be a piece of art), but the visuals are too overly posturize and look extremly fake. The CGs must be one of the fakest one i had seen for a while for a big production like this.

THe plot is the worse, everything seems fake and unrealistic, the script tried to be about a lot of things but ends up being about nothing. There is no real direction to the story from the start to the end. I feel the director shot the first part of the movie planning to make a romance, and wake up the next day and saw a black guy being fucked by a white thinking, fuck this world sucks I should do something about it today, I should make a drama about racism. Then he wakes up another day reading about the terroism attack in Mumbai, fuck I should tell a story about stopping a war. I should make a war movie today.

ANd damn, i end up dunno what i am watching

JIm Carrey used to be really funny without trying hard, nowadays he tried to hard to be funny and end up being lame. ANd this is the one word I will describe this movie, LAME. THe movie is just so annoyingly stupid that it makes me feel stupid watching it. There are alot of redundant scenes that should be just cut out, watching a comedy that is not funny is untolerable, the 104 mins in it feels like 3 hrs. Whenever I thought the movie is going to end , it tries to give me a even lamer joke.

And weirdly though is the movies starring Zooey Deschanel, I think she is really cute, quirky and quite a good actress and I had noticed her since she starred in the cutsy Will Ferrell flick ELF, but every movies she is in recently tends to sucks like the suckiest movie of the year The Happening, Bridge to Terabithia and Failure To Launch.

Everybody tells me how good this is before i watched it giving me so much expectations. THis stories tell us never give too much expectation for something or you will often end up being disappointed. I felt like Bolt was a wonderful children's movie, but left nothing for adults to be entertained by.THe characters may be cute but I think the story and characters are unoriginal and seems to have read and seen it somewhere b4 especially the hamster Rhino and the talking pigeons.

ANd i really not into the old school Disney cartoons with alot of goosebump songs thats why the only Pixar film i didn't like is Cars. But nevertheless this is still a alright family film to bring your children to.

Based on a Nobel winning Novel, this movie had been slammed by crtics critically around the world due to its sensitive issues with human morales and especially for portraying blind people comparing them to "monsters".

This movie ranked in my Top 10 most "awkward and uneasy movies to watch on a first date" ranking table which consisted of Requiem of A Dream, The Machinist, Oldboy and The nortorius Brown Bunny. The rape scene in the movie will especially make u finched and feeling uneasy throughout the movie.

I would describe this movie as a zombie movie like I am Legend and 28 Days Later, just that this time the zombies are real humans who has turned blind. Interestingly all the characters in the movies had no names, their character are namely known as "The Doctor", "The Doctor Wife", "Man of Ward 1 #4" and "King of Ward 3" which I think is clever showing what a "blind world" is like. Using white instead of the usual black in a world of darkness was a fresh idea which works well in the ending especially when Julianne Moore character look up the sky full of white thinking if she has turned blind.

But the main point of this drama is showing us the ugly sides of humanity to us "norms" how extreme situations and fighting for survival bring out the worst of us humans. The movie is being slammed for portraying blind people badly but I think it is more of showing how ugly and disgusted humans can be when they are left in a situation like this. An eg. maybe you might think you are a really good person who loves your family, your friends and even your dog. But when left in a do or die desperate time of choices would you not betray your family and friends and even kill your dog for food?

But this movie had it loopholes and dosen't make sense logics. Julianne Moore character as the only person who can see, why did she allow herself to be manipulated by the bastards and allow herself and the other women to be raped and tortured when she clearly had the advantage of sight?

Though this is still a really great movie i think that every humans should watch.

Just to let you all know please do not miss the 5 mins of this movie or you will be like me trying to figure out throughout the movie how the characters interlinked and the main plot of the story.

This is a really smart movie trying to tell us how dumb human can be, even the FBIs. Smartly intervine linkage of the characters, which causes like a chain reaction in the way the movie moves. But you need to really pay attention what is going on.

This movie is only alright to me as the Coens had done similar movies and done better before like The Big Lebowski and O Brother where Art Thou. But I thought the characters were really fun especially for George and Brad.

How I wish I can get to act Brad Pitt character...

This movie gotta be the biggest budget comedy ever. And for playing a war movie in a movie, it might even exceed the cost of an actual war movie.

The dialogues are really hilarious, but you must be a really big movie fan to know what are the jokes about, joking about Hollywood, acting jargons, character acting and movies comparisons with the Rain Man and Forrest Gump.

The opening of the movie with 3 movie trailer and a drink commercial, especially the trailer starring Robert Downey and Tobey Maguire playing gay priests was hilarious. The main 3 characters parody the 3 main types of actors in Hollywood, the guy who acted in blockbuster movies who actually can't act (Ben Stiller), the guy that acted in stupid comedies and fart movies joke (Jack Black), and the last guy who will goes through all sorts of thing to be in the character portray who also happens to wins all sorts of awards (Robert D Jr.)

The actions and explosives scenes were really cowabunga! Stunning actions which can even put Saving Private Ryan or Apocalyse Now to shame. The first 10 mins of the movies can be as good as any top 100 movies of all time. The last half hour dialogue of the movies was really funny and smart, the problem is with the middle of the movie. The jokes dosen't make you laugh and makes no sense.

The cameos in this movies are alright only too. People had raves about how funny Tom Cruise is inside as the money loving producer who only caresa about making money. I actually find it funny while watching too, but to think back, what if this guy isn't Tom Cruise and just some unknown guy, we find it funny only because Tom Cruise play dumb.

Robert Downey Jr. I think is the only funny guy and standout in the movie, I think he can even win a Oscar for this but we all know the Academy don't watch comedies. Everything this guy has recently appeared in is great. I am beginning to love this guy.

After a recent list of flops, Guy Ritchie goes back what he do best, movies about crimes, sex and drugs. ANd something new Rock n Roll! Actually its a story of sex, thugs and rock n roll to be exact.

Friends around me had been recommending this movie to me, but if you had watched Snatch and Lock Stock before, the 2 will makes this movie looks bad. After starting nicely with his trademark quickpans and quick cuts,t he first 1 hour of the movie was a bore in the ass. The performance are cool but the dialogues wasn't and dosen't talk sense (although usually his movie dosen't talk sense too), leading the story no where. It started to get really funny when Gerald Butler and his Co. got chased and that was when I started to realise I was watching a comedy. It ended quite alright but the twist dosen't even feel like a twist at all.

And also the shortest sex scene in movie history might be the greatest sex scene of all, blink and you might just missed it.

AND LASTLY

THE COFFIN which I don't even want to bother reviewing cause it sucks to the core. I will still give it a rating though. 0.75/5

Zack & Miri Make A Porno - The banned poster (in US) of the sex comedy which as you can see, the gesture of oral sex.

Zack & Miri Make A Porno - To show their unhappiness in a sort of protest, the movie producers design another version of the poster, which you can see is clearly done in 2 mins.

Dear Zachary - I donno what this movie is about, but clearly the poster looks more like a book cover.

Movies I am recommending from now till end of October.

Tropic Thunder - Anticipation Level 10/10
With 3 big funny men in 3 leads in a movie, Jack Black, Ben Stiller and Robert D. Jr, it got to be really funny. (hopefully)

Vicky Cristina Barcelona - Anticipation Level 6/10
Woody Allen has its recent seem of flops, but with well known acting cast like Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz and Scarlet Johansson in it, it get to be good.

RocknRolla- Anticipation Level 7/10
With this kind of title and a rocking director (Guy Ritchie) with a rolling wife (Madonna) and rave reviews so far, i can;t wait to see this myself.

Eagle Eye - Anticipation Level 8/10
With the movie associated with Speilberg and up and rising star Shia Labeouf, this means this movie gonna be big and explosive. From its trailer, I am expecting this to be good, even though Jumper let me down before.

Burn After Reading- Anticipation Level 9/10
Great award winning cast and directors, if you likes movies you gotta watch this.

Body Of Lies- Anticipation Level 7/10
The publicity of this movie has been really quiet so far thus I am not giving high hopes for this, but with Russell Crowe and Leo Di Carpio in this Ridley Scott directed thriller I am not expecting too little from this too.

Appaloosa- Anticipation Level 5/10
Recent western flicks standard have been really high, and this coming directed by Ed Harris, a brilliant actor himself, I am setting the standard high too.

Nights in Rodante - Anticipation Level 6/10
From the author of The Notebook and A Walk to Remember, and the next collaboration between Richard Gere and Diane Lane after Unfaithful, comes a definely tear jerking movie, prepare your tissues girls!

Wall- E (2008) - 3.75/5 Stars

Directed By: Andrew Stanton (A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo)

This movie remind me of the old cartoons like Popeye and Warner Bros (Bugs Bunny, Road Runner etc.), or even silent shows like Charlie Charplin and Mr Bean, where there is minimal dialogue inside the stories. Thus this movie can be watched understand by people of any races and ages. The strongest part of this movie definely has to be the main lead Wall-E. The character is adorable, well written, a strong personality and most of all ,lots of heart. The little details they use inside the movie building up the character of the movie like treating the cockroach like your best friend, falling in love with the music and the care and thoughts he arranges all his things and even rubbish. Thats why as the audience you can emphatized with him, seeing him maybe is like looking at your loyal dog, who never leaves your side.

Another interesting point in this movie is we get to see the world through machines point- of view, machines who feel more about Earth and life than the humans do. The humans can just leave the Earth as it is and leaves the world to robots to clear our mess. This in real nature also shows how insensitive we humans really are sometimes. The depiction of humans on the ship could have been incredibly offensive, cheap, and tasteless in concept but the execution here is absolutely perfect.

Thou story is brilliant, having 1 character and maybe 2 (if you count the cockroach), dominating half of the movie without dialogue, its almost put me to sleep at the start, luckily as a former Full Time National Serviceman who gone through one of the main process in army, "Waiting", i manage to hold on till the end.

In Bruges (2008)- 4/5 Stars

This little publicized Irish movie had managed to fight its way through IMDB Top 250 movies(currently 237), and I am more happy to find people around the world for their support of this movie.

Escaping and holed up in Bruges, Belgium after a job gone terribly wrong, two hit men begin to differ on their views of life and death as they become used to local customs. This movie although sad and poetic in its own way, is actually sort of a dark comedy. Making fun of midgets and using the word fuck in every sentence they can put it in. The word 'fuck' and its derivatives are said 126 times in this 107-minute film, an average of 1.18 'fucks' per minute. With so much fucks in the dialogue, you can imagine how fucking their life are in the movie.

The movie is a bit slow but essential for the first half as it is necessary to set the mood and the contrast between that and the second half. That's all I'll say so as not to spoil anything. It is everything you need to find in a good movie. There's comedy, beautiful cinematography, and awesome action scenes. I'd highly recommend seeing this movie. It's definitely worth the price of a movie ticket while most of the crap out there these days isn't worth the cost of the paper they print the tickets on.

(and you know I am toking to you Kelvin Tong, for dashing my hopes of Singapore Movie industry with Men In White, wasting my 7 hard earned bucks and 2 hours of my bloody time)

2 Days In Paris (2007) - 3.5/5 Stars

Cast: Julie Delphy, Adam Goldberg

I would define this movie as a Arty-Rom-Comedy. Julie Delphy best known for her roles in Before Sunrise and Before Sunset, tells the story of an interesting couple who looks to reinfuse their relationship by taking a holiday in Europe. I love the little details in their love and hate relationship of each other, especially the humor inside the movie (especially the dick with the balloon), you had to watch to know it.

Into The Wild (2007) - 3.5/5 Stars

Cast: Emile Hirsch, Marcia Gay Harden, William Hurt

Based on a true story about a guy Chris McCandless graduating from Emory University, top student and athlete, abandons his possessions, gives his entire $24,000 savings account to charity and hitchhikes to Alaska to live in the wilderness. Along the way, Christopher encounters a series of characters that shape his life.

In this movie you will find yourself in a love and hate relationship with the lead in the movie. As one of the main reasons he leaves is to escape his overbearing parents, he leaves his family without leaving a word behind. Even though you could sympatizes with him and the circumstances he is being led to, and somehow admire those people lives that don't have to work your ass off to pay off your bills and think of your family, you find him entirely selfish leaving your family tinking every minute where are you, are you really even dead or alive.

Also the story is somehow pretendious, you can see the movie is trying to make a hero and paying tribute out of this guy and what he had accomplishes, riding through wilderness and sharing love and fighting for his life throughout the movie, but I of the main thing I hate about people are unfilial selfish bastards and this guy, to me is one of them.

Nanny Diaries - 2/5 Stars

Starring: Scarlet Johansson, Laura Linney, Chris Evans, Alicia Keys

This movie is a nanny version of the Devils Wear Prada. And if you are trying to copy someone idea and someone who have done it before, you better had to make it a better and stronger success. But sadly this movie is not.

The plot is predictable, you know how the story is going to end up from the start and sadly I have to admit I watched this movie just because of Scarlet Johansson.

RockNRolla - Directed by GUy Ritchie directed of cult favourites Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two smoking barrels, who haven made a single good movie for the last 8 years since marrying Madonna. This might turn out to be his golden ticket to save his career. Starring Gerald Butler of 300, Thandie Newton of Crash, Jeremy Piven and Ton Wilkinson.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona - Woody Allen new movie starring the always great Javier Bardem, my top 2 favourite girl Scarlet Joahansson and the hottest Latino Penelope Cruz. Already receiving rave reviews will this be the next comeback for Woody after a few flops of last 2 years, we will watch out.

The Spirit - Another new poster of the new movie director by Sin City creator, Frank Miller.

Terminator - Salvation - One of my all time favourite Sci-fi movie, this time starring Christian Bale, one of the actor I feel is one of the best of his generation a;ways choosing great and interesting roles. One downside of this movie is it is directed by McG, the director of the Charlie Angels sequels. Will this turn out to be good?

W - A very funny poster of the biopic of US President George W. Bush, director by Oliver Stone director of previous US Presidents biopics like JFK and Nixon.

The Brothers Bloom - This is one movie that I think will be really good, an amazing cast starring Adrien Brody, Rachel Weisz, the underrated Mark Rufflalo and Babel turnout star Rinko Kinkuchi. Directed by the director of indie flick Brick, Rian Johnson, Adrien and Mark played the Brothers Bloom, the best con men in the world, swindling millionaires with complex scenarios of lust and intrigue. Now they've decided to take on one last job - showing a beautiful and eccentric heiress the time of her life with a romantic adventure that takes them around the world.

Burn After Reading - A rare comedy by the Coen Brothers, director of Fargo and fresh Oscar winner No Country For Old Men, starring another brilliant cast consisting of Georges Clooney, Frances MCdormand, Brad Pitt, John Malkovich and Tilda Swinton.

Humboldt County - An indie comedy flick about a disillusioned medical student being stranded for a summer in a remote community of counterculture pot farmers, the last place in the world he imagined he would discover himself.

Dark Knight - 4.25/5 Stars
Performance of a lifetime by Heath Ledger who overshadow EVERYONE inside this flick which means alot consider the amazing cast (Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman. Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhall, Gary Oldman and Aaron Eckart). Some of the most amazing car chases scenes especially the one with the long oil tank truck?? Brillant.

Hellboy 2 - The Golden Army 3.5/5 stars
I somehow like the simpler, lower budget first Hellboy. You could see where all the money is spend in this CGI heavy flick. But sometime too much money might not do too good too a genius like Guillermo Del Toro whose must better flick are all low budget movies like Pans Labyrinth. But his vision and creativity is still astonishing as you can see in all the creatures in the movie.

Hancock - 3.25/5 stars
Alot of my friends dislike this but i thought it was pretty okay. Firstly I think of the idea and concept was original, who had ever thought of the aftermath of what a superhero have cause after saving the citizens from the villians like those crash railways, collasped buildings and no. of casualties died because of this. And the twist is pretty cool too. You got me there.

Wanted - 3/5 stars
Overstylish, lack of story substance, but Angelina is kickass in here.

Red Cliff - 3.5/5 stars
Could be a much better if the CG is more realistic, and some of the actors seems to be miscast because of the accent (might be because of the dubbing), looks and performance like Tony Leung(especially), Chang Chen, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Lin Chiling and that Japanese guy who keep trying to scare audience with his angry face. They just don't talk and behave like people during the era. But the battle scenes are realistic and I am looking forward to the 2nd part of this biggest budget chinese movie ever.

The Bank Job 3.5/5 stars
A pretty good old school gang robbery British flick starring Jason Statham which kinds of remind me of a less cooler and stylish Lock Stock and Two smoking Barrels.

Charlie Wilson War - 3.25/5 stars
Emily Blunt was really hot in her 2 scenes less then 3 mins performance, and this story seems really short and somehow dosen't seem completed to me.

Grace is Gone - 3.5/5 stars
I think this is really a good example of a low budget movie that won the audience through brilliant acting by the cast. I think 80 percent of the budget is one the cast, 1 percent on rental of the car which 40 percent of the movie happens inside ,2 percent on promoting it (as no much promoting was done, its all through word of mouth) and the rest for the crew. A very different movie from the recent craze of movies cause by the American involving in the Iraq war.

Woohoo, ord lo. quite old news. But post ord life is alright so far. Got to start work in Mediacorp working in the Chinese drama department as PA next mon. The pay is meagre and i bet work is gonna be tough but I hope I can endure long enough to strike in my first step to my career path i decide to choose since i finished sec sch.

Btw I am pretty fed up with all the foods and stuff rises. Yesterday night i was watching the Euro 2008 soccer and suddenly something in my mind tell me" hey handsome, you haven eat a prata for a long time, its time to have some. Preferably one goseng and 1 egg with onion." And when I decide to move my lazy ass to go down to buy a prata and during the payment time i give 2 dollar and just when I am about to say keep the change, the staff tell me. Sorry dei, total 2.60.

$2.60 for 2 freaking prata. nabei i bring $2.50 down nia still must malu go back to my hse take another 10 cents down. On the way back to my hse, i still look on the ground wishing i am lucky enough to spot a 10 cent coin. By the way the sum of the prata is 1 goseng $1 plus 1 egg with onion $1.60.

And today i go buy lunch, trying to see what food to eat nabei all the food in my S-11 coffeeshop is freaking pricey. 1 plate chicken rice $3.30 (what kind of weird price is tt) mee pok $3.50 and ban mian $3, you char kway wa biang 80 cent. ok la for nw the price still can take it but u flashback to the price of just 4 yrs ago ~~~~~~~~~~~~ shiu~~~~~~~~~ time travel shiu~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

About Japanese Chirashi
In Japan, these mini posters are known as Chirashi. They are used for promotions of films that are produced and distributed by film companies screening their movies in Japan. For most of the posters, the design used for a certain movie is only exclusive to Japan, thus makes the design unique and higher in demand and value.

Most of the titles I'm selling are new movies titles. Indiana Jones 4 : The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Rating: 3.25/5 stars

The first third of the movie is quite draggy. The 2nd third of the movie was really good, it was what Speilberg do best, blockbuster action reminds me of his Jurassic Park. But the finale of the movie was really trashy, nonsensical. Speilberg seems to have a thing with aliens invading our Earth with the not long ago as trashy War of the World, the very long ago E.T and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and the aliens is like paying a homage to the 2 former. Why the hell will Indiana Jones suddenly end up as a sci-fi movie. Damn it this could be really great.

The Chronicles of Narnia 2 - Prince Caspian

I didn't like the first one, so i went to this one with no expectations which I hope will be better than what I expect and it end up worse. The whole movie is just so draggy. The kiddos i the movie are just not in the range of Daniel Racliffe and Elijah Wood to hold such a big blockbuster on their own. The title role Prince Caspian was the worst, the casting of Ben Barnes was bad, he dosen't had the charisma the carry the whole film and he is one of the main and weak reason this movie is bad, escially in my opinions.

3:10 To Yuma - 4.25/5
The most recommended show i watched of the lot. I cannot believe its so good, the story is really smart and all the acting are really brilliant. After Unforgiven and The Good the bad and the Ugly, the next best cowboy movie i ever watch.

Failure To Launch - 2/5
Only for SJP lover, pretty boring chick flick.

Die Hard 4 - 4/5
Some really stunning action scenes, Len Wiseman should do more movie like this then concentrating on Underworld.

This Is England - 3.25/5
American History X British version. Not bad but I thought overrated.

Billy Eilliot - 3.5/5
Passed down from my dear friend Ade, not bad too but why for a ballet movie there is more tap dancing then ballet.

The Upside Of Anger - 4/5
I like this type of family drama alot, like Squid and the Whale and Royal Tenanbauems. This 1 is pretty good too.

I cant believe for a film lover i only watched this till now. True to all the records, this movie really good and scary in its own way. Kickass.

And I am starting to get pissed with most of the people around me recently, stop flying me assholes. And finaly and sadly, I missed Funny Games, it is screened down today. ARGH damn it.

This is consider alright. I would consider it a mixture of Spiderman and Fantastic 4 which means a mixture of good and bad things. The good thing about the movie is the actors are really good and they do best in what they had to do in this type of movie, acting really cool and for the damsel in distress beautiful and pitiful (so rhyme).

For the first of the coming sequel, the movie introduce well to the background and origins of the superhero and how it came about. Thus this is the same good part of the movie that is similar to the first Spiderman, which I consider Spiderman 1 and especially 2 the best superhero movie ever. But for the bad part which is similar to Fantastic 4, it is more corny and more popcorn friendly for kids then grown up guys (the director had been making kids movies in the past) and the fight scene which fans wants to see most was not exciting and long enough. But no doubt it is a good start for the up and coming sequel.

And I want to share one irritating thing. I was watching this movie beside some fanatic idiots who keep shouting and getting excited all the time when something new appear, " fuck that is awesome upon seeing Iron Man first look, " Almost standing up and pointing to the screen shouting "Stan Lee, Stan Lee," when he appear in a cameo". Fuck You, he should be grateful I am a peaceful person if not I will give him a taste of my Iron FIst.

And I really like the ending btw. what a way to end.

Forbidden Kingdom
Rating - 1/5 stars

This movie is a fucking disgrace and insult to Chinese cinema and culture. Stop making fun of Chinese in your movies, HollyWOOD!!! I wonder why did Jet Li and Jackie Chan, supposely the pride of Asia Chinese sold out themselves for a big paycheck. Its not like they dun have the money or better projects to be involve with.

I was wondering why other Asian actors get great roles in movies in Hollywood like Rinko Kinkuchi in 'Babel', also earning herself an Oscar nominee, Ken Watanabe in 'The Last Samurai' and 'Memoirs of Geisha', Michelle Yeoh also in Geisha, Sunshine, and Tomorrow Never Dies, but actors like this 2 and Chow un Fatt keep appearing in some dumb Hollywood B-F grade action comedy.

When you heard dialogue like "1 mountain canot have 2 tigers", it makes me wonder the American must be thinking we Chinese English must be really dumb and silly. The whole movie is just making fun of famous Chinese characters in movies, the chinese idioms and language. FUCk You Hollywood.!!

Harold and Kumar 2 - Escape From Guantanamo Bay
Rating - 3/5 stars

THis movies is just like a replica of the first movie, just that from going to White Castle, they are now escaping from Guantanamo Bay. They reuse almost 3 quarter of the jokes of the first movies. But great effort of them making racist and political jokes funny and not really causing abuse to them. And Harold and Kumar are really likeable in these roles.

2. TINKER BELL (October 28th, 2008). Disney's favourite fairy gets four straight-to-DVD, and Blu-ray, movies. Brittany Murphy has previously been announced as providing her voice (Yes, Tink now speaks), but her name was not mentioned in the announcement and their are stories that her voice may not be used. The second, Tinker Bell North of Never Land, is out in 2009; Tinker Bell A Midsummer Storm in 2010; and Tinker Bell A Winter Story in 2011. All titles are subject to change.

3. UP (May 29, 2009 in). Pixar's big film for 2009, directed by Pete Docter (Monsters Inc) and Bob Peterson, concerns a 78-year-old man who abandons his quiet life and embarks on a series of adventures with an 8-year-old Wilderness Explorer that take them to exotic and bizarre locales. The footage shown on this one made the collective hard-hearted journalists at the press conference go a bit misty-eyed.

4.THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG (Christmas 2009)Walt Disney returns to traditional animation (yay!) for the first time since Home on the Range. Ron Clements and John Musker (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin) seem the perfect pair to bring about its new life, with this twist on The Frog Prince that takes place in New Orleans. Anika Noni Rose, the first African American Disney princess, provides the lead voice.

5. TOY STORY 3 (June 18, 2010)“At the end of Toy Story 2, Woody and Buzz had accepted the concept that they were toys, things that would some day become expendable to their owner,” director Lee Unkrich told us at the presentation. “And that’s all well and good. Until that some day becomes that day – when Andy finally goes to college. That’s what we’re exploring here.” Little Miss Sunshine's Michael Arndt scripts and we're told that Barbie's long-term beau Ken will be a new character. Toy Story and Toy Story 2 will also get 3-D cinema releases in October 2009 and February 2010.

6. RAPUNZEL (Christmas 2010).The directing debut of master animator Glen Keane (responsible for brilliant work on Tarzan and the Beast in Beauty and the Beast, among others). This is a take on the story of the girl with the very long hair and employs a CG look that has the appearance of being an old master painting. Co-directed by Dean Wellins.

7. NEWT (Summer 2011). The seven-time Academy Award winner sound designer Gary Rydstrom – will make his feature directing debut (he directed Pixar short Lifted) with this tale of the last two remaining, male and female blue-footed newts, put together in a science lab to mate. The problem? They can’t stand each other. “Newt is smart but he’s never had to think for himself and is pampered,” says Rydstrom. “Brooke [his proposed partner] on the other hand is streetwise and not to be messed with. It’s fair to say it’s about as bad as first dates can get.”

8. THE BEAR AND THE BOW (Christmas 2011). A second Pixar film for 2011? We are truly spoiled. This one takes place in a "mythic Scotland" where a young royal (Reese Witherspoon) decides that she'd rather be an archer than sit around a castle. She makes a choice that unintentionally unleashes peril on her father's (Billy Connolly) kingdom and her mother's (Emma Thompson) life, and puts her up against the forces of nature, magic and an ancient curse. Brenda Chapman, a writer on Cars and Beauty and the Beast, makes her directing debut and becomes Pixar's first female director.

9. CARS 2 (Summer 2012). Lightning McQueen and Mater return in a sequel to the hit movie, to be directed by Ratatouille producer Brad Lewis. No details on plot, but John Lasseter says "I asked the cast this time to make sure all their passports were up to date. because this time we’re going international.” No word either on which other characters might return. Cars wouldn't have been the Pixar project most people would expect to get a sequel, since it was the least well reviewed of the studio's work. We'd never suggest that Pixar would be driven by profits over good story, because we genuinely consider them much better than that, but Cars was one of the studio's most profitable movies based on the enormous merchandise sales, so we can imagine Disney was keen for a sequel.

This movie is pretty much like a guy's chick flick. Ryan Reynolds amazingly never strike it big as a Hollywoodpowerhouse, being dabbling more in comedies like Van Wilder, Just Friends and Waiting.... . But this movie might just give him his big break.

The whole movie is really sweet and nice, especially Abigail Breslin! How i wish she's my daughter. The movie is about a guy on the verge of a divorce, telling his love story of the 3 women in his life to his daughter (Maya), who had to guess which one is her mum.

The movie would really score even higher if the movie haven't been so predictable. You sort of guess who Maya mum is and who he ended up in the end with through the middle of the movie, as the director make one of the 3 female leads much more likeable then the other 2 in the movie. But what the heck, its still a good movie to watch and how I wish I had a love life fill with pretty babes like Rachel Weisz and Isla Fischer.

After my introduction of Tropic Thunder last week, now here came the first set of posters for the movie. Downey Jr looks hilarious! Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, 2 of the best actors of all time starred in this drama about 2 terminally ill men escape from a cancer ward and head off on a road trip with a wish list of to-dos before they die.

I can only use a single straight line to summarise my thoughts of this movie. Yap a veri straight 1 drawn with a ruler.The movie is like a line, no ups, no downs, its like when you were young you sit down and heard your grandpa talk non stop for 90 mins. But ths time is 2 grandpas.

The movie is quite a bore especially dragging down by Morgan Freeman. Jack Nicholson as usual in another great performance otherwise in a boring movie.

Another film coming out this year is this big star cast comedy, Tropic Thunder, which tells the story of a group of actors who go on location in the jungle, and find themselves relying on their brief actor's boot-camp training when they find themselves in a real combat situation. This is also Ben Stiller 4th directorial effort after The Cable Guy and Zoolander.

The star studded list includes: Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Robert Downey JR (this yr Iron Man) portraying an African, Bill Hader and cameos by Tom Cruise, Tobey Maguire, Matthew McConaugary.

Already a hit at the Sundance Festival, Son of Rambow is a comedy about friendship, faith and the tough business of growing up. We see the story through the eyes of Will who has never been allowed to mix with the other 'worldlies,' listen to music or watch TV, until he finds himself caught up in the extraordinary world of Lee Carter, the school terror and maker of bizarre home movies. Carter exposes Will to a pirated copy of Rambo: First Blood and from that moment Will's mind is blown wide open and he's easily convinced to be the stuntman in Lee Carters' diabolical home movie. Will and Carter's complete disregard for consequences and innocent ambition means that the process of making their film is a glorious rollercoaster that eventually leads to true friendship. They start to make a name for themselves at school as movie makers but when popularity descends on them in the form of the Pied Piper-esque French exchange student, Didier Revol, their unique friendship and their precious film are pushed, quite literally, to breaking point.

This is really one of the most original movies about movie spoofs by the director of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Michel Gondry, the first half of the movie was really good and funny but after the Ghostbusters and Rush Hour 2 part, everything is going downhill and over melodramatic. Jack Black is the scene stealer again, making Mos Def just behind him as his shadow.

Semi Pro - 2.5/5 stars
This is really crappy, but thanks to Meet the Spartans this will not be the worst movie i had watch this year. Will Ferrell portray his usual self in his usual roles, screaming and souting all the time, portraying himself as a sex sympol appearing half naked most of the time. But the are still some funny moments though, kept till the minimum.

Pretty watchable dramedy by Steve Carrell. Not the best and nothing memorable about it, but some great acting and moments, suitable for a family watching gathering. Emily Blunt makes a great appearance in her cameo too!

Some short reviews of recent movies i watch on DVDs recently. (all movies of 2007)

Reign Over Me - 3.5/5 stars
Alot of people thought Adam Sandler is just a comedian, never realising that he can actually act, but his dramatic roles are seldom seem by people. Movies like Punch Drunk Love, Spanglish, and Click makes him one of my favourite actors. This movie is his another attempt at drama. It is one of the few films in the past few years that actually make me tear, really moving movie about Post 911 about how a widow guy handled the loss of his wife and children who was victims of the crash.

Planet Terror - 4.25/5 stars
Kickass time again. One half of the supposed 2 movies for the price of 1, Grindhouse. This is the better half to the other part directed by Tarantino, Death Proof. The gore and comedy really tickles me throughtout this film. Great attempt of a movie paying homage to the 70s Grindhouse drive in movies.

Evan Almighty - 2.75/5 stars
Although this comedy never makes me even smile at all the whole movie, it is truly amazing seeing the effects and one of those movies that must have cost alot of time and money to make. But not one I would recommend.

Surf Up - 3/5 stars
Pretty different concept of a animation using the idea of penguin reality show to tell the whole story. Not a bad movie to watch with the kids, and the penguins are sort of cool.

Horton hears a Who!

Director - Jimmy Harvard & Steve Martino (debut)

One day, Horton the elephant hears a cry coming from a speck of dust. Though he can't see anyone on the speck, he decides to help it. As it turns out, the speck of dust is home to the Whos, who live in their city of Whoville. Horton agrees to help protect the Whos and their home, but this gives him nothing but torment from his jungle neighbors, who refuse to believe that anything could survive on the speck.

The first half hour of the movie is like watching an extended version of the movie trailer. Surprisingly this movie turns out to be pretty watchable. Although compare to Pixar movies, Dreamworks animations still lacks of a class, their movies are often cheesy, corny, doing parodies of other movies and unoriginal (Shrek, Shark Tale, Madagascar), but the script turns out to be a fresh of breath air.

Though this movies dosen't bring out any "laughing-out loud" moment, the jokes are as corny and cheesy as ever, but is definely funny enough for children below 12. For age 13-20, you will enjoy 10 % lesser, for 21-30 20% lesser and so on.

But this movie is surely entertaining enough for the average audience, so quick go spend your 8 bucks now.

A spanish horror film produced by Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pans Labyrinth). About A woman who brings her family back to her childhood home, where she opens an orphanage for handicapped children. Before long, her son starts to communicate with an invisible new friend. This movie had already won several awards in its country including Best Picture.

This is one interesting movie I can't wait to see, starring Ryan Reynolds as WIll Hayes, a 30-something dad in the midst of a divorce when his 10-year-old daughter, Maya (Abigail Breslin), starts to question him about his life before marriage. Maya wants to know absolutely everything about how her parents met and fell in love. Will then tell 3 different stories of his past 3 relationship and let Maya guess which is her mum. Is her mother Will's college sweetheart, Emily (Elizabeth Banks) ,longtime best friend and confidante, the apolitical April (Isla Fisher) or the free-spirited but ambitious journalist Summer (Rachel Weisz)? And as Will tells her his tale, Maya helps him to understand that it's definitely never too late to go back...and maybe even possible to find a happy ending.

Funny Games
This is a cruel sadistic movie about a middle-class housewife Anna telling the story of how she and her husband George and their 10-year-old son Georgie submitted both physically and mentally to the torture, violence, and death foisted upon them by two young, unexpected, white-gloved visitors at their weekend vacation retreat near a lake. I had goosebumps even after watching the trailer imagining how disturbing this movie could be.

Some latest updates of myself.

ORD in 2 and a half month times.!!! holy shit i can smell ORD! and what does ord smells off. no more mud and sweat, no more waking up at different time of the day, no more shitty army (SFI) food, it smells better then the most branded perfume you all spray under your armpit.

but one bloody hell thing that spoilt my ORD mood, the escape of Mr Selamat without the Hari Raya. me and my army friends had ben cursing the detention centre ppl for letting a crippled (bai Ka) escape of a detention centre. I cant even imagine an able bodied person walking out. Now instead of having 2 days work 2 days off i am doing 3 days work 1 day off.

But during my CNY spring cleaning, i came upon an autograph book, you know those sort of very cutesy girly book during ur last few days of ur Primary 6 after PSLE, you pass to every classmate to write something hw they feel about you and sign off. Mine happen to be this pink cover with 2 little pigs that i wrap up with book cover nicely. OMG i had a great time laughing at all the words and poems ppl write. Here are some classic.

Juno & No Country For Old Men Review

Dir - Jason Reitman (prev work: Thank You For Smoking)

This little indie flick is about an offbeat 16 year old woman, who faced with an unplanned pregnancy after "exploring sex" with her best friend, makes an unusual decision regarding her unborn child, by searching for the "coolest" parent for adoption of her kid.

This movie definely leave you laughing throughout and end you tearing at the end of the movie. The dialogue and script written by ex-stripper Diablo Cody is simply hilarious, brilliant and original. The character of Juno Macguff starring Ellen Page is one of the most memorable and original written female character that I had seen on screen for the past few years since Julia Roberts 2000 Erik Brockovich, giving that the guys always had the better and stand-out role.

The highlight of the movie i felt is the part when Juno still decide to give up the baby to Jennifer Garner character, Vanessa even after the couple is divorcing. In her mind she knew, Vanessa needs and loves the baby much her then she, and she knew at 16 she definely won't make a good mother. The scene which Juno refuse to see even take a look at the baby after giving birth will make you fighting your tears till the end of the movie.

Highly recommended is also the soundtrack which Ellen Page picks the song which she feel Juno will loves it. A great movie and definely giving a deserving Diablo Cody her first Oscar for Best Screenplay.

No Country For Old Man - 4.25/ 5 stars

Dir - Joel and Ethan Coens (prev work:Fargo, Big Lebowski)

Violence and mayhem ensue after a hunter stumbles upon some dead bodies, a stash of heroin and more than $2 million in cash near the Rio Grande.

This story revolves around 3 primary characters. Josh Brolin as Llewelyn who came upon the money while he was hunting that might cause his life, Javier Bardem as Chigurh (Sugar) the psychopatic killer who ended up as the hunter hunting Llewelyn for the cash and Tommy Lee Jones as Tom Bell the sheriff trying to get to LLwelyn before Chigurh lays his hands on him.

The slow and grand cinematograhy pulls you into the movie, and the pace moves on still slowly but faster as the tension between Llewelyn and CHigurh gets tighter and tighter. All 3 gave brilliant performance especially Javier Bardem who outshone everybody in the movie. But the ending somehow shock me and I go home trying to think of whats the hell is that ending, but I went to check the imdb forum and without giving any spoilers pls pay attention to the last part of the dialogue, its really a good ending.

A creepy and definely thrilling thriller, a deserving winner of yesterday Oscar for Best Picture and Director.

Director - John Carney

This movie is a simple modern-day musical about a busker and an immigrant and their eventful week in Dublin, as they write, rehearse and record songs that tell their love story. I am so happy for the 2 leads when they won the Oscar for the Best Song category, you can see this award means how much to them, and thissong and film is really beautiful.

I am glad the oscar acknowledge this movie so me myself who like to recognise small independent films would like to further highlight this little flick no one might ever know or ever heard of. Like the lead actor who say during the acceptance speech, the film is shot in 17 days with 2 handicam, with a 30,000 (dunno wad currency) budget. It is a simple love story and the movie works because of the great songs inside, although the whole movie is very amateurish and slow, the audience is totally won over by the 2 leads and the soundtracks in the movie.

Go watch the movie immediately and I will gurantee you will go get the OST next.

Really thrilling, the whole flow and pace of the movie is perfect. Actors are brilliant especially Javier Bardem who is sure to win the oscar for his psychopath role tmr. A little draggy though. I cannot understanding the ending though, but go read it or watch it the second time you will find it is a really good ending.

There Will Be Blood - 2/5 stars
This movie definely cause some blood and it make my blood boil. I can't understanding whats the craze about it. Empire, 8 Days, Strait Times, Today all give it 5 stars review. I thought the acting is over the top, story overly draggy and alot of un- understandable parts.

Really fresh style of animation. Story abit too draggy and slow, but i like the whole transitions of the movie, story and jokes could be a little stronger though.

I cant believe i watch this cause normally i won't watch those J/K movie with their pop stars acting like Takuya Kimura, Bae Yong Jun kinda show but giving my friend Jiayi who is leaving spore soon, i give in, wada gd fren i am right. This so is one of the most average movie i even seen i cannot only use 1 word to describe. Average.

Jumper - 3/5 stars

Dir: Doug Liman (Go, Bourne Identity, Mr and Mrs Smith)

This story is machiam Nightcrawler the movie, or Hiro from Heroes goes Solo, but if there is a fight between this 2 and Jumper, Jumper will lose in all categories, its coolness and power. oh man how much this movie disappoints me.

Falling into a frozen river after a school prank, David (Christensen) discovers that he can teleport, or ‘jump’. This gives him a way to leave his miserable life and begin a new playboy existence. That is, until he learns that ‘jumpers’ are targets for a mystery group of religious fanatics.

This movie had so much potential to be good as teleporters are always so cool, Nightcrawler is the standout from X-Men 2, Masi Oka Hiro makes him such a star in the Heroes series even thoug he is such a geek. When you find such a great looking guys especially like Hayden Christenson it definely can't go wrong. The first point of failure is the acting is totally crap from the main leads, Hayden Christenson and Rachel Bilson acting look like some secondary school drama play performance. Even Samuel Lee Jackson who usually you can relied on dosen't seems to belong here, although bring a bit of freshness is Mr "Billy Eilliot" Jamie Bell who brighten slightly this dull movie.

There wasn't much CG to talk about, the dialogue was crap, there wasn't much of a plot only alot of jumping around. There is definely more jumps in this movie then watching a documentary about frogs. But some last half an hour cool fight scenes made up slightly for this movie.

There is talk of a sequel and i already thought of a title. Jumper 2 - Buddha Jumps Over the Wall.

CJ 7 - 3.5/5 stars

Dir: Stephen Chow (prev work- Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle)

I think Stephen Chow really forget one thing, the reason why so many people watch his movies is because people want to watch him, but he seems to be getting to comfortable in the director seat and appearing lesser and lesser each time he is on screen.

The stood out of this movie is definely Xu Jiao, the girl who cross dressed as Stephen son in this movie. In recent Asian cinemas memory, I had never seen such a natural on screen especially handling both the emotions and comedy part of the character so well.

But the saddest part of this story is the weakness in the plot, Stephen say he spend 2 years working on the script but for what I see is just a normal plot a third rate script writer can think of. The jokes are not enough and the dramedy is not enough. But for the cuteness of the "7 zai" k la give u o.5 stars more.

Kung Fu Dunk - 1!/5 stars

The moment at the first 5 mins of the movie when i heard the nonsense sound effects and soundtrack I knew I will be in a terrible ride. And I am so RIGHT!!

From the first second to the last the movie is trash. Ridiculous action of slam dunking, ridiculous sound effects, ridiculous jokes that is not even consider joke as it is nt funy at all, and a ridiculous moment of time frozen and rewind.

Oh man, dun let me c the director or i will find a basketball and slam his head.

Sweeney Todd - 3.75/5 stars

Hearing Johnny singing is like every fan of his dream come true!!! JD with Tim Burton in their Sixth collaborations of a musical based of a myth in London.

After hard years in exile for a crime he didn't commit, Benjamin Barker now Sweeney Todd, returns to London to find his wife dead and his daughter in the hands of the evil Judge Turpin. In his anger, Sweeney goes on a murderous rampage on all London, with the help of Mrs. Lovett, he opens a barber shop in which he lures his victims in with a charming smile before casually ending their life with a flick of his razor across their neck. But not one man killed, nor ten thousands men can satisfy Sweeney's lust for revenge on those who've caused his years of pain.

Everything is so Tim Burton in this movie, every frame is a piece of art, the whole art direction, the songs, the cast appearance, amazing. Although I thought Helena Bonham Carter rendition of Mrs Lovett was totally amazing, she was the scene stealer and I feel she performs definely better then JD in this, why she didn't get an nod for any nominations in any awards I do not understand.

But the letdown of this movie is definely the ending. it is one of those ending where you go, "huh bo liao?" and continue by a 3 words curse.

Atonement - 3.75/5

Robbie Turner, the educated son of the family's housekeeper, carries a torch for Briony's headstrong older sister Cecilia. Cecilia, he hopes, has comparable feelings; all it will take is one spark for this relationship to combust. When it does, Briony -- who has a crush on Robbie -- is compelled to interfere, going so far as accusing Robbie of a crime he did not commit. Cecilia and Robbie declare their love for each other, but he is arrested, with Briony bearing false witness, the course of three lives is changed forever. Briony continues to seek forgiveness for her childhood misdeed, thus the title Atonement.

The cinematography of this movie is breath-taking especially the 5 mins steadicam shot i wondering how the hell did the DOP did it. But one thing this movie is definely overrated since i saw alot fo 5 stars reviews by alot of leading critics. The first thing is the love relatioship between Robbie and Cecelia, the way the plot make it, I saw more lust then love in this relationship. There is nothing I see that make me pity this couple, I never see one willing to die for the other in the first act, thus when everything from the second act of Cecelia waiting for Robbie comeback from war, I don't feel anything at all. But no doubt this is still a very good movie. Pls support it.

La Vie En Rose : 4/5 stars

The biopic of the amazing life of Edith Piaf, France famous songbird starring by the marvellous Marion Cortillard in this brilliant movie.

An un-chronological look at the life of the Little Sparrow, Edith Piaf (1915-1963). Her mother is an alcoholic street singer, her father a circus performer, her paternal grandmother a madam. During childhood she lives with each of them. At 20, she's a street singer discovered by a club owner who's soon murdered, coached by a musician who brings her to concert halls, then quickly famous. Constant companions are alcohol and heartache. The tragedies of her love affair with Marcel Cerdan and the death of her only child belie the words of one of her signature songs, "Non, je ne regrette rien." The back and forth nature of the narrative suggest the patterns of memory and association.

This movie will definely make Marion Cortillard a big star like what Amelie done to Audrey Tautou shooting her to international stardom. The whole movie reminds me alot of Audrey Tautou too for some resemblance and style in their quirky way of acting. One thing I don't like of this movie is the cutting to flashback and present too often and I'm really mixed out in which era they are and the other characters in the movie. At 140 mins slightly too draggy thou.

Slightly overrated but no doubt a good film, i really hate the ending which spoilt the whole feel of the movie, but the cinematography is brilliant watched out for that 5 mins steadicam shot.

Its really the shit ending again, whats up with all those endings! Every frame is a piece of art of this Tim Burton craft. Johnny really rocks and but I believe Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs Lovett steals the show, she is definely underrated, I can't believe she has not receive a single nomination so far this award season!

The Savages - 3/5

Could afford to be more quirky and humorous, but I really like the plot, reminds me of alot of things. Nice little indie.

Cloverfield to get a sequel?!?

What director Matt Reeves say during an interview - " There's a moment on the Brooklyn Bridge, a guy was filming something on the side of the bridge, and Hud sees him filming and he turns over and he sees the ship that's been capsized and sees the headless Statue of Liberty, and then he turns back and this guy's briefly filming him. In my mind that was two movies intersecting for a brief moment, and I thought there was something interesting in the idea that this incident happened and there are so many different points of view, and there are several different movies at least happening that evening and we just saw one piece of another. That idea sort of tickled me. We'll have to see if anyone would want a sequel. If the movie does well and we find a compelling reason to do so then it would be fun to do a sequel".

Christian Bale and Johnny Depp to be starring in Michael Mann new film, Public Enemy

Omg, 2 of my favourite actors to appeared face to face on screen!!! The film's the story of legendary bank robbery John Dillinger (Depp) and the huge FBI hunt for him, led by Agent Melvin Purvis, who Bale is set to play. So it's definely very Michael Mann (Heat, Collateral, Miami Heat), even though in this case the 1930s setting takes this a little way away from his usual stomping ground.

Iron Man to appear in The Hulk?

This must go down as one of the strangest cameo ever in movie history. Source from Empire website, "This is going to prove controversial for the film and some will call it a shameless attempt by Marvel to cross promote their movies. But we think it's pretty neat. These characters are all supposed to exist in the same world, so it makes sense that they'd be aware of each other. yesterday quite a busy day. have a sushi buffet with ade and co. for a sort of farewell dinner at goodwood park hotel. dim sum not bad but will have end more pts with more variety. den shop around town for awhile and meet sandy, tak yee, jiayi , kevin for jay chou concert. o man the concert realli sucks. i tink due to his previous day concert, his voice sounds weaker den a mouse. is not mighty mouse, or mickey or the ratatouillie mouse, its a tom n jerry mouse! the sound system sucks, the only way i feel better after tt is i nv spend 1500 bucks buying his tickets on ebay like those idiots.

#1 Grindhouse
Tarantino posters are always a iconic, classic and snatch by poster collectors (Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill). The selling point of 2 movies for the price of 1 of the old B grade raw feature is fantastic. Love at first sight.

#2 Black Snake Moan

This poster is really cool and kickass, belongs to the same style as grindhouse. I love the whole rugged and gritty look, especially of Christian Ricci and Samuel Lee.

#3 Sweeney Todd
This does look like your normal Tim Burton fantasy style movie poster, but it kind of really reminds me of Edward Scissorshand and it really makes you want to watch the movie, dosen't it?

#4 300
The poster is as iconic as the poster, one word to describe, kickass.

#5 Paris Je Taime
I love the overall feel and concept of the poster, using iconic Paris tower to make it into a heart. Nice and sweet.

This is a risk taking poster, simple, no big star photos, thats why i love it. Old school.

Cloverfield - 5/5 stars !!!

Dir: Matt Reeves (prev work - Felicity (drama)

This monster movie totally puts I am Legend to shame, luckily they came up b4 this marvellous piece of genius work by the talent wonderkid J J Abrams (creator of Lost, Alias and dir of M I 3).

After minimal opening credits, we are informed by text on the screen that what we are watching is footage from a videocam "retrieved at an incident site formerly known as Central Park." Watching it, we discover that a going-away party for a man, Rob (he's transferring to Japan) is interrupted by an earth-rumbling, fiery disturbance down at the waterfront – and shortly after that, all hell breaks loose. The monster – as well as skittery, spider/crab like parasites that drop from its body – attack, stomp and/or chew on anything that moves – while our heroes set off to rescue a friend trapped in her high-rise apartment.

Actually you shouldn't even be reading this, the more you know about this movie, the less better it will be. This is a one of the most original concept and idea ever for a monster , end of the world movie. Everything begin slow and thus creating the suspense. The audience is getting impatient! we jus want to see the monster. But the director try to hook ur attention by not revealing anythin to you. He slowly revealed to you pieces and pieces and god damn i had not been hooked throughout an entire movie for dunno since when!

The tension is great cause we are experiencing what the protaganists are experiencing. Many people might be affected by the shaky cameras but I feel the overall idea overshadow other mistakes and goofs of the movie. Just go to see this movie b4 the whole town talk about it soon!

But for one thing I had to say, the camera is really amazing, it never seems to run out of battery, and it had the light mode for all sort of situation, night vision, adolsecent etc. And Hud the camera operator who at the start of the movie say he hardly knows how to operater the camera, seems to do a pretty good job making a movie out of his video debut.

American Gangster - 4/5 stars

Dir: Ridley Scott (prev work Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Blade Runner)

The battle of the best actors winners, and will Ridley Scott did better this time after his previous last 2 flops (Kingdom of Heaven, A Good Year)?

Based on a true story, following the death of his employer and mentor, Bumpy Johnson, Frank Lucas establishes himself as the number one importer of heroin in the Harlem district of Manhattan. He does so by buying heroin directly from the source in South East Asia and he comes up with a unique way of importing the drugs into the United States. As a result, his product is superior to what is currently available on the street and his prices are lower. His alliance with the New York Mafia ensures his position. It is also the story of a dedicated and honest policeman, Richie Roberts, who heads up a joint narcotics task force with the Federal government.

This movie is a sort of combination of Catch Me If You Can and Lord of War, the cop catching the thief story. But i like the way the characters contradicts each other. Denzel Washington, as a drug lord, killing people without even battering an eyelid is a filial son, caring husband even risking his life to block a gun shot for his wife, but Russel Crowe as Richie the supposely minority of good cop who does not take bribes, is a fail husband, father who commin adultery with every decent looking woman he seen. Surprisngly this 2 actors only appear together in the last 15 mins of this 2 and a half hour movie.

The movie at 137 mins running time is a bit draggy in some parts. The background of Frank Lucas could be cut much shorter, if the whole movie is around half an hour shorter, it will be a much better film for the audience.

To sum it up I believe this is an excellent telling of a true crime story. It's intriguing, entertaining, and certainly serves as a cautionary reminder. DO not sell or take drugs.

anyone who had read ade blog may know my start to the new yr wasn't tt good. after a realli bad dinner and waiting a cab for a hour plus isn't my ideal way of starting the year. my sinus problem getting worse, i need a plumber to stop my leaking nose. haven go out much this yr everybody is realli hard to date. nt having enough sleep most of the time. ade is leaving this sun for 6 weeks 1 lesser fren to hang wit but wish her gd luck n njoy her training safe n sound.cousin getting married had to help up wit his prep. the year awaited golden globe been cancell because of the damn writers strike. things on a gd note. this sat jay concert. sun sending ade off. oscar movies month. hope i pass my driving the 2nd time. n looking forward to cny! woohoo.

The Darjeeling Limited - 4.25/5 stars

Dir: Wes Anderson (prev work Royal Tenaunbaums, Rushmore)

Wes Anderson coming back to form after his slight slump in his prev film Life Aquatic with a funnier, quirkier and indianer story.

Three American brothers who have not spoken to each other in a year set off on a train voyage (the train is call Darkeeling Ltd thus the title) across India with a plan to find themselves and bond with each other -- to become brothers again like they used to be. Their "spiritual quest", however, veers rapidly off-course (due to events involving over-the-counter pain killers, Indian cough syrup, and pepper spray), and they eventually find themselves stranded alone in the middle of the desert with eleven suitcases, a printer, and a laminating machine. At this moment, a new, unplanned journey suddenly begins.

Wes is one of my favourite actor as i absolutely love his style of work which is easily the most distintive warm colourful setting, simple camera tracking movement, quick panning, slow motion, almost the same cast (Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, Anjelica Huston), and 60s soundtrack. But critics normally panned him for never breaking out of the box and playing with the same storyline of a trouble family relationship.

The magical and beauty of this film is the Indian setting background the whole art direction of this movie. The train, which obviously is a set provide the charm of the heart of the movie. The music and the whole backdrop make you feel really fun and relax watching this movie throughout. The other successful part is the casting of the 3 brothers, (Adrien Brody, Owen Wilson and Jason Schwartman), although playing really 3 different characters, their chemistry can be seen on-screen sabotaging, distrusting and trying to escape from one another. You really feel for the sentiment affection of this worse then stranger brothers. Especially memorable is the line by Jack, "I wonder if the three of us would've been friends in real life. Not as brothers, but as people ".

Also recommended viewing before watching this amazing film is Hotel Chevalier, a 13 minute short film directed by Anderson and starring Jason Schwartzman, available for free download online. In the film, Schwartzman plays the same character that he plays in The Darjeeling Limited. Also starring is Natalie Portman as Jack's ex-girlfriend, who makes a brief cameo in the feature film as well. The short film helps establish Schwartzman's character, and provides clues on certain details of The Darjeeling Limited.

Though burned out and uncontent with his job , his divorce, a failed business venture and mounting debt left Clayton tied to the firm. But when Kenner Bach's brilliant and guilt-ridden attorney Arthur Edens sabotages one of his case, Clayton faces the biggest challenge of his career and life.

Written and direted by Bourne writer, one of the greatest action trilogy of all time, starring George Clooney, Tilda Swinton, Tom Wilkinson, all really credible actors giving great performances. The problem with this movie is with the people who is watching it, do you understanding all the law and business crap they were talking in the first two third of the movie. For me, i didn't, thus i was sort of playing catching with the movie, trying to find out most of the time the jargons and business terms in majority of the dialogue.

The directr try to make this the sort of "intelligent" film, that makes you think what is going to happen and what the characters going to do. In the end it left the viewers too much to do, thinking, guessing, coping with the dialogue, slow pace, and the hardest part, keeping awake.

No doubt a good film, but certainly not for everyone, definely not for me.

Whale Rider (2002) - 4/5 stars

Dir: Niki Caro (prev work: North County)

A dvd I just watched. This is a little indie New Zealander flick and the performance of then 12 years old Keisha Castle Hughes really touched me. (She is also the youngest ever woman to be nominated for Best Actress for a Oscar.)

The story tells in the east coast of New Zealand, the Whangara people believe their presence there dates back a thousand years ago to a ancestor, Paikea, who escaped death when his canoe capsized by riding to shore on the back of a whale. From then on, Whangara chiefs, always the first-born male, have been considered Paikea's direct descendants. Pai, an 11-year-old girl in the tribe, believes she is destined to be the new chief. But her grandfather Koro is bound by tradition to pick a male leader. Pai loves Koro more than anyone in the world, but she must fight him and a thousand years of tradition to fulfill her destiny.

The people in the movie reminds you of characters and stories in Pocahantas, just that everything is slightly modern, clothes, hairstyle and talking in the modern world. But the traditions remains the same as the past, girls are discriminated, guys taking over most of the responsibilities around. This is actually a very simple story but very well told by the main character in the movie portray by Keisha Castle, who defy all the odds to earn the recognition from his beloved grandpa. Everytime she appeared on the screen it hold your attention and left you in tears.

I am very glad this movie is able to be made cause if i am a movie, I won't choose to invest money for this kind of movie. I will have problems trying to market this film as this is not the regular movie normal movie goers would want to see (no known superstars, no million dollar effects, no cutesy winny voices singing chipmunks). But with the incredible acting, breakthrough talents, deeply movie, wonderful scenery and cinematography, i hope everybody will get to see this movie suitable for all ages.

Across the Universe - 4/5 stars

Dir: Julie Taymor (Frida)

This movie is a real darling for anyone who is a Beatles fan. The film characters, the stories, the motivation is all based on all the Beatles song like, I Want to Hold Your Hand, I'm the Walrus, Hey Jude, Let it Be, Something, Strawberry Fields Forever, and many more.

A dock worker Jude travels to America in the 1960s, the period during turbulent years of anti-war protest, the struggle for free speech and civil rights, mind exploration and rock and roll, to find his estranged father. There he falls in love with sheltered American teenager Lucy. When her brother Max is drafted to fight in the Vietnam War, they become involved in peace activism. The social protests that Lucy is involed in threathen to separate their relationship, will their love last?

This is the type of movie you either love it or hate it. I am the sort of person that hate movies musical that pop up and sing during every part of the movie like Phantom of the Opera and Rent, but this is a bold, quirky and visually stunning feature by Julie Taymor. I like the way the songs are not just to act as the "selling point" for this so call Beatles movie, its a movie that stand out as its own. The songs are reproduce to tell the story of all the characters, especially for the song I Wanna Hold your Hand, which turn out to be first sad start to the movie.

This would be a movie that you can watch many times, like a Cd that you love, listen it over and over again, another plus. All the songs in the movie are sang by the actors in the movie. Enjoy the movie.

Due to christmas i would like to put a top 10 list happy and lovey movies suitable for christmas!! in no particular order.

1. Paris Je Taime - for those who haven't watch this, it is a suitable movie to watch with your loved ones thiis festive season, love is in the air.

2. Love Actually - Channel 5 show this every year, but pls watch the uncensored version if u haven't watch.

3. Big Fish - a great fantasy and familyfilm, one of my all time fav.

4. Bad Santa - The movie that stereotype Billy Bob Thornton, not suitable for kids.

5. Gardenstate - My fav darling Natalie Portman, also one of my all time fav. lovey dovey.

6. Notebook- This list looks like a valentine movie list too.

7. Little Manhattan - a sweet little love story of a 10 yr old boy in love with his childhood friend.

8. Catch me if You Can - Technically a christmas movie too.

9. Chocolat - the fav gift for christmas.

10. Finding Neverland - Another little big of magic from JD.

I Am Legend -3.5/5

Dir: Francis Lawrence (Prev work, Constantine)

This is another one man show movie since Cast away by Tom Hanks, although not comparable to Tom Hanks performance, but Will Smith manage to pull it off.

Robert Neville (Will Smith) is a brilliant scientist, but could not contain the terrible virus that was unstoppable, incurable, and man-made. Somehow immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in New York City and maybe the world. For three years, Neville has sent out daily radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there. But he is not alone. Mutant victims of the plague -- The Infected -- lurk in the shadows... watching Neville's every move... waiting for him to make a fatal mistake. Perhaps mankind's last, best hope, Neville is driven by only one remaining mission: to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood. But he knows he is outnumbered... and quickly running out of time.

Firstly, the New York you see in the whole movie is totally rendered in CG, only some scenes shot in real motion, thus this is one of the best visuals i seen, very well thought and totally look real and stunning. Secondly, for some reasons zombies seem to be moving faster n faster, last time the zombie speed is 2km/h, now they can run even faster then a car, in yr 3000 movies, i cant imagine how fast zombies will be. But there's a answer from the director, which say zombies like human are also evolving, especially in the 3 yrs time, and cleverly they also set up the trap to caught Will Smith too, with Fred the mannequin as the bait. Another great part of the movie, they managed to drag our suspence and make us worried for the characters in the movie, with the acting and the camera work (remind me of Sixth Sense), which turn out to be scarier then those recent horror movies.

I think alot people will think 3.5 rating is a slightly low rating for this movie, but i feel there are alot of loopholes in the movie, thus i giv it 0.25 star lesser. Why won't the canned food expired? Where did he get the water and electricity from? How can Anna and Ethan get to New York when you see all the bridges destroy in the movies? And the worse is the ending which just try to end the movie quick, when Will Smith spend 3 yrs trying to look for humans, Anna and Ethan can just heng heng, bang, find out where the other survivors are. trying to bullshit me. and the most important, if he is so convinced that everybody is dead, (bang bang, everybody is dead, dead!) as he say to Anna, why do he still bother to send the messages to the radio and wait for other survivor every single day? but a forum post in imdb seems to answer some of this questions but i am not convinced. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0480249/board/flat/92867373?p=1.

Warlords - 3.25/5

Dir Peter Chan (prev work Perhaps Love, Tian Mi Mi)

This movie aka Kill Bill style, you saw killing non stop and everyone was killed. Peter Chan trying to break out of his safe zone to make a epic blockbuster, i think it fails to win any chinese audience but might get some from the western.

This movie is about a heroic tale of three blood brothers and their struggle in the midst of war and political upheaval. It is based on "The Assassination of Ma," a Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) story about the killing of general Ma Xinyi.

The reason i don't really have anything much to say about this movie because it is a typical chinese war movie you watch on chinese serial drama or those old hk movies. Man meet man, man became buddy with man, man steal man wife, man betray man, man kill man. every men died in the end. end.

The worse part of the movie is the casting of Takeshi Kaneshiro, i always had doubts about his acting, but he seems to be the favourite of those great chinese director acting in, Chungking Express, Fallen Angels(Wong Kar Wai), House of Flying Daggers (Zhang Yi Mou), Confession of Pains (Andrew Lau), Perhaps Love (Peter Chan again) and the next John Woo epic comeback Red Cliff. His acting is so unnatural at times, and it makes the audience uncomfortable watching, and when you see the audience laughing at some of the suppose to be serious scenes, you can imagine how wrong his acting is.

Jet Li and Andy Lau acted pretty well but their acting expressions seem to be always the same in every movie and rigid, thus the movie fails in its no surprise movie plot and non surprising acting.

Valley Of Elah - 3.25/5

The next feature of fame screenwriter Paul Haggis, so how was his next attempt on the director chair?

Hank (Tommy Lee Jones) receive a call from the Army that his son Mike, who just came back from Iraq, has gone AWOL. In the search of his son, a detective Emily Sanders (Charlize Theron) becomes interested in the case and starts helping Hank outside of her job. When Hank's son's body is found, the search suddenly turns into a search for the murderer.

The winning formula of the movie is the portraying of Hanks by Tommy Lee Jones, which the story just totally revolve around him. This is what i call first class acting, you see the lines around the expression of his face, which tells alot even when he dosen't say anything. If acted by other actors, the guy might just go all out to show off his acting skills by venting his anger and crying out, but he expressed them all through his face, subtely, he looks concerned, under pressure amd try to control his feelings not letting people realize how breakdown he was. His voice full of power and authority which truly shows that he work in the Army in the past. Which makes us wonder why did he act in craps like Men in Black?

The bad point of the movie might not be bad for some, cause I am not really into really slow paced and draggy movies. But the small twist of the movie works for the movie. Nevertheless i would not recommend this for the mass, only for a minority.

The director of Citizen Dog must be a big fan of Jean Pierre Jeunet cause this is a total replica of style of the French movie Amelie. But this dosen't mean this is bad.

A strange, romantic comedy by the director of Tears of the Black Tiger is the story of a country boy named Pod. He heads to the city to look for work, heedless of his grandmother who warns he'll grow a tail as soon as he finds a job. He takes a job first in a sardine factory and loses a finger, only to find it again. He then becomes a security in an office and had a crush on a maid, an introverted girl named Jin who obsessively cleans and reads a mysterious white book that she can't understand. He changes jobs again, to a taxi driver, to help her out. However, with Jin's other obsessive natures and desperately chasing her own dreams, with Pod finally win her heart?

This colourful happy musical rom com is totally insane. You get involved in a accident losing your favourite tapping finger and recovered it back in a sardine tin. You get a motorcycle taxi driver who get killed by raining helmets, coming back to do his job just because he is so routinely involved in that he dunno what else he can do as a ghost. You get your grandma reincarnated as a gecko to advice you just before you are going to commit suicide. You get a talking teddy bear call Thongchai who smokes and scold vulgarities. But overall I like the ridiculous, outrageous plotline and the whole surrealism, dreamy feel of this movie. Its a combination of 50% Amelie, 30 % Chungking Express and 20 % Punch Drunk Love.

The bad bits of the movie it tends to reuse the same material, the scenes and shots over and over again so by the start of the second half you will get a bit bored. Visually this is impressive, the tracking shots, the over saturated colours, the use of low budgets to make art (plastic bottles). Overall a highly recommended movie to people who want to laid back and see something entirely different from those blockbusters and zombie flicks and see a nice sweet little movie.

The Golden Compass - 2.75/5

Dir: Chris Weitz (prev work: American Pie, About a Boy)

I just watched this movie an hour earlier and it kind of disappoint. It is one of those hype blockbuster movie that you expect alot which often lets you down like the Chronicles of Narnia and the recent Harry Porter.

Based on the novels by Philip Pullman, the first part of a supposed trilogy, the story begin with a young girl Lyra living in a world where human being souls that take the shape of an animal, known as demons where it will be always around you to become your friends. She is thrown into a adventure when she overhears a conversation of an particle, Dust. This particle is said to unite different worlds, and is feared by many who want to destroy it forever. As Lyra is flung into the middle of this horrible struggle, she meets creatures both big (the coca cola polar bear) and small (metal fly), and villains (Nicole as a villian!) who are not what they seem. With the help of a magical golden compass that will answer any question, Lyra has to save the other children that are kidnap for their demons.

The first part of the supposed trilogy is abit monotoneus which never seem to hit a climax is sort of forgivable as it is the introduction and characterization of the stories and characters, kinda like the first part of the LOTR trilogy where the actions and kickasses scenes all started in the 2nd the 3rd part of the movie. But with all the hype involved you expect much much much more from this. The cast is a brilliant and wonderful cast, the CG and actions are stunning and fantastic, and everybody is beautiful from Nicole Kidman to the Coca Cola look alike Polar Bear. But too much talking heads, too little actions and a poor cliffhanger makes this movie a letdown. But the story backline looks promising so i expect alot more for the sequel.

But let me share with u guys the few movies n dvds i watch during NOV. time for the oLc review.

Lars And the Real Girl - 3.5/5

Dir: Craig Gillespie (prev work Mr Woodcork) damn u all arent going to watch this liao.

dun be deceive by the poster of this movie, it is totally diff from what you will visualize. This story is one of the strongest drama performance i ever seen from an actor and i quite confident Ryan Gosling with get nominated for the Oscar for the second time in a row for this performance.

The movie starred Ryan Gosling as Lars Lindstrom, an super shy young introvert who finally brings home the girl of his dreams to his brother and sister-in-law's home. The proble is she's a sex doll Lars ordered off the internet. You all might thod from this onwards it is going to be one of those American Pie, Superbad type of cheap sex humour movie, but u r WRONG!! Sex is not what Lars has in mind, but for some reason this 2 weird couple develop a really deep, meaningful relationship. His brother thod he is totally insane, but eventually the entire town goes along with his delusion in support of this sweet natured boy that they've always loved.

This movie bring me laughter (not those stupid humour type of love), but more of for Lars innocent that you cant help but feel pity for this boy for the whole movie. The movie will be alot alot better if the pacing of the first half goes 3 times faster cause it is really draggy.

And this movie screenplay also yesterday won the Best Original Screenplay in the National Board of Review awards.

Enchanted - 3.5/5

Okay i just shoot disney earlier i know and now i go watch a disney movie u guys must be want to throw stones at me. This is a kind of movie i wun usually watch. But i am a classic disney fan like ASnow White and Lion King, with such a cute trailer, and one of the most underrated coming actress Amy Adams first lead role in a major movie how can i dun watch.

This movie is about a fairytale princess from the past who is throw into present-day by who else? an evil queen, cliche u must thod, somemore she is also a stepmother. So disney for a start. Soon after her arrival, Princess Giselle begins to change her views on life and love after meeting a handsome lawyer play by McDreamy, Patrick Dempsey.

Most of my friends give 3 stars for this movie but i give abit more by who else, Britney! but this is so freaking old school that i love it and i was so delighted throughout the movie. Surprisingly the memorable moments of the shows are stolen by the supporting cast, James Marsden as the Prince in the fairytale trying to save Giselle in real life and the chipmunk. This 2 characters brought around 3 quarter of the movie laughter and jokes. but b4 u watch this movie in theatre prepare for a lot of kids and children talking and crying in the cinema which i had to tahan for 2 hrs.

Lust Caution - 4.3/5

Dir: Ang Lee (prev work: Brokeback Mountain)

This is one of the best movie of 2007 for me, the first being Babel which is technically a 2006 movie but screen much later in Spore.

Set in China World War 2 era, the story begins with Mrs. Mak, walking into a café, making a call, and then waits. It brought us to a flashback where the movie begins, in 1938 China. She is not in fact Mrs. Mak, but a shy student, Wong Chia Chi. With WWII underway, as a freshman at university, she meets fellow student Kuang Yu Min(played by Wang Lee Hom) during a play they work together. He sort of psycho his gang to carry out a ambitious plan to assassinate a top Japanese collaborator, Mr. Yee (Tony Leung). And the story goes in a way how Chia Chi live is being intervine and ultimately destroyed by the 2 men.

I think this movie is a great movie that spark a lot of controversy, the sex scenes (is it real or not) the armpit hair (are those hair real) and alot of post topics and discussions like why did Wongk nv kill herself with the pill in the end? this is one of the movie that i tink the sex and nudity makes great sense and one of the core part of the movie, u totally see hw Mr Yee character dominated Wong in the start and hw the story and sex positions changed in which Wong dominated Mr Yee.

and for the part that said y wong nv kill herself in the end, i read a strait times article review and it say Wong wants to see if Mr Yee who she felt in love with in the end and spare his life, would he vice versa do that to her? which i feel is a great thought. and for the last scene where Mr Yee see his shadow on the bed, shot of the year nominee anyone.

DVD: Equilibrium - 4.25/5 (2002 movie)

This is a movie you watch more for the kickass and style for those cult movie fans. I am very happy to see this flick accidentely cause i bet a very minimal of you will see this cool low budget movie and i am very glad to introduce to all my friends.

At the end of World War III, the world fell under the control of Father and the Tetragrammaton: a government that outlaws all forms of art and emotion. Citizens are forced to take drugs that eliminate emotions. However, "Sense Offenders" which means they portray sense and emotions like love, art, books and music will be sentence to death. John Preston (Christian Bale) is a Cleric, aka the ma-ta, policeman who had to catch and eliminate Sense Offenders with the help of a ruthless police force. One day, he accidentally breaks his morning dose of emotion suppressant drug and begins to feel. Soon, he begins sympathizing with the Sense Offenders and begins to understand the feeling of... er feel. and ultimately fightback and kickass time when Preston turns his back on the government and kick alot of asses in the meantime.

The highlight of this movie is the action and fight, which the director invent himself call Gun Kata means fighting with a gun. Nv seen action and fight portray in such a cool and stunning manner. This movie is also inspired by Bruce Lee in Jing Wu Men but i also feel it portray some resemblance with Matrix which i dosen like that much.

DVD: Dark City (4.5/5) 1998 movie

Dir: Alex Proyas (prev work: The Crow)

The last movie i would like to recommend would be Dark City, a 1998 movie directed by Alex Proyas.

The story begins with John Murdoch waking up alone in a strange hotel to find that he has lost his memory and is wanted for a series of brutal and bizarre murders. While trying to piece together his past, he stumbles upon a underworld group of beings known as The Strangers who possess the ability to put people to sleep and alter the city and its inhabitants. Now Murdoch must find a way to stop them before they take control of his mind and destroy him.

This story is so cool and original. You can see the building morphing into all kinds of shapes liek Playdoh and for a low budget movie of that era, the graphic and visual style is brilliant and damn creative. The set and bg kind of reminds u of Batman. Also starrign the always brilliant and one of my fav actress Jennifer Connelly, the fame critic Roger Ebert also name this the best movie of 1998.

The story is interesting in the way it will all compiled of Beatles songs and music to make it into a musical so expect a quirky n different show.

The Golden Compass - K i guess everybody being waiting for this no need to talk about it more.

Warloads aka Tou Ming Chuan - Jet Li salary make out of half the movie 40 million budget but the main point to watch the movie is still for director Peter Chan, who nv let us down b4. i saw the featurette and the performance all look brilliant and intense.

I Am Legend - I not a big fan of thsi type of blockbuster n will smith but the 2nd trailer of this show is really good so check it out guys.

Starring Wes regulars Owen Wilson, Jason Schwartzman and Adrien Broody. B4 u watch this u might want to catch the prelogue short film starring Natalie Portman Hotel Chavelier.

American Gangster - Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington i dun need to say the plot u also will go watch. Russell as the cop and Denzel as a number one drug lord. Catch me if u can 2?

CJ 07 - Stephen Chow NEW MOVIE!!! OMG WAIT DAMN FREAKING LONG. out jan 31. Its sort of a ET chinese version about Stphen playing a poor guy with his young boy (which is play by a girl btw) finding a toy which turn out to be an alien.

3:10 to Yuma - A cowboy western movie starring Christian Bale and Russel Crowe.

Kite Runner - one of the best selling book of the last few years woohoo! another must watch!

Ratatouillie: 4 and a quarter/5 . Pixar animation is always much much better then the other animations like shreks, madagascar, flushedaway er n zodiac. they spends 2 yrs developing the stories, 1 yr designing the characters, another year animating. tts hw long they took to make a animation u see on the screen average 4-6 yrs. tts y all their movies turn out good and this is one of their better storylines i feel. the rat is veri nice animated especially.

the cherography is gd singing nt my type of music machiam disney in rnb. but the lead girl veri fat keep reminding me of the fat asses in zouk come n dance with the guys. so if u dun like tt this movie is not for u.

Bourne Ultimatium: 4 and a quarter/5 omg the best movies i watched in recent months. the vision of the movie is excellent. the excellent editing n clever use of hand held cameras, small dialogues is woohoo outta the world. i am nt a big fan of the director (paul Greengrass.. united 93 and bourne supremacy) cause of its overuse of handheld camera make me everytime come out of the cinema feels like roller coaster ride. but the action is there, the storyline although i nv watched the first n only the second doesen matter cause the action rocks. Highly recommended !

Simpsons the movie: 3 and a half outta 5. not very funny i tink any episode of south park will be funnier but the colour sui hor. veri colorful can fight with spongebob.

Secret: 3 and a half/5. since this movie is a secret cannot tell u all but go c this movie without knowing the plot will turn out 2 times better. but alot of loopholes but gd debut for jay chou. huo huo huo huoh uohuohuo.

i guess my previous post of movie reviews is not veri well received. guess i am not cut out to be a movie critic hoho.

the day is getting nearer.

if got a choice i wun wan to let go ... somehow everybody is veri happy school is finally over, but somehow i realli love sch and friends and of course wad i am studying.

i miss production life, miss receeing around touring and fin out some realli special places in spore, get to eat realli good food at places tt u will nv thod of goin in ur whole life, carrying tons of heavy equiptment in early 5am morning or 12 midnite for shoots, toking nonesense n jk around with crew and cast, i miss staying overnight for days outside the bakery talking throughout the nite eating hot and fresh breads, i miss shooting at bus stops for consecutive days with all public eyes on us, i miss travelling from locations to location on aurelia dad lorry, i miss climbing mountains and walking through forests to find suitables spots.

i miss sch, i will miss editing in the avid room watch dvds and playing with my paper soccer ball, i miss acting realli stupid and being gaying in the studio studio project, dead corpse, being extra in short film and being a stupid gangster in a stupid short and i bet nobody in the indsutry or anybody will be willing to pay me to act again, thanks for all the actign chances u all giv me. i miss staying overnite in sch and hide urself from the security to nt get caught.

i miss thailand surin yep, an important part of my life, where i get to bond and realise the really great friends i had, i miss running around in 4 am in the morning finding to find the sunrise which had nv been found, i miss sitting by the shelter by the river talking crap and playing stupid name games, i miss playing with the naive kids and acting like a big kid myself dancing and playing all day and night. i miss chasing gecko and end up being chase away by them.

i miss all the ktv sessions i had, i miss voiceout the first singing competiton i join n won which i will nv had thod of join all my life. i miss acting like a fake nigga singing nigga songs.

i miss going to zoo to draw stupid hawk and musuem drawing statues with friends although i am nt gd at drawing, i miss drawing the thousands sheets of rice sacks in the animation studio n buying 1 dollars nuggets and wedges at the south canteen.

i miss playing sports in sch although my bunch of fren are nt realli sporty ppl which cause me to rate severly obese by mindef. i miss playing bball b4 cp1 lesson n get scold by danny kon for appear smelly n late in class. i miss playing soccer in the hockey pitch and joining competition even though we always get knock out in the first round. i miss playing badminton with the girls even though they are quite bad at it.

i will miss all the overnight mahjong sessions.

and last and most of all. i miss all the friends i had. i love u guys. u all gave me a great 3 yrs. n hope this friendship will last forever. thanks so so so so so so much guys.

since i am so free today i will do a free movie review for the recent movies i watch. u guys r so lucky.

Poseidon- 3 and a quarter/5 ---> Poor start and poor ending. No character development. After i watch finish the movie i dun even rem a single name of the actor in the show. Quite entertaining in the middle though.

Da vinci code 3 ---> i walk into the cinema so excited to watch this movie and i walk out a sian guy. For all the hype and good cast the show is nv gan chiong and the cast chemistry r terrible especially tom hanks and audrey tautou!!!! 2 of my fav actors!!!

Matador 4 stars---> This is the best role and most unique role Pierce Brosman everhad. The story is sort of nt brilliant but entertaining.

Kiss Kiss bang bang 3 and a quarter stars---> i am a crime and thriller movie lover but this 1 realli disappoints me. no more kissing n not realli alot of banging. i bang on the wall though accidentely watching the movie. abit cheesy too.

Inside Man 3 and 3 quarter---> i am a big lover of clive owen, i tink he is underrated for a actor. he make this movie so cool and style. veri intelligent story it makes u tinking throughout and even after watching the movie.

Sympathy of lady vegeance 3 and half stars ---> I am a big fan of Park Chan Wook and his oldboy. Oldboy is kick ass. This 1 however is alright. Its still the director typical stylish movie. But in this the director seems to go over style over substance. Oldboy is so tense n gan chiong but in this quite draggy n boring narration. but da chang jin lead is kickass.

8 below 3 and 3 quarter stars ---> dogs are kickass and inside the movie the dogs are cute and kickass.

History of Violence 3 stars---> wah liao i thod this movie veri gd sia i read imdb some ppl still rate top movie of the yr. sucks lor quite violent la but i also can be veri violent . violent mus gt entertainment wad. liek i slap u ur head fly off violent n funny wad. this 1 violent den nth liao.

Match point 3 and 3 quarter stars---> woody allen finally make a watchable film. wow this movie is sexual and gan chiong. the girls inside r beautiful especially one of my fav scarlet johansoon. the twist of the movie is gd its moves nicely from romance->drama->crime->thriller wow gd movie.

walk the line - 4 stars --> joaquin pheonix is kickass. he sings so well make me wan to buy the movi soundtrack. gd music gd movie.

fun with dick and jane 3 stars ---> i luv jim carrey but i did nt had any fun with dick and jane in this movie.

duma 3 and 3 quarter ---> cool movie its almost a animal planet movie. u get to see cheetahs, crocodiles, giraffes, lions, tigers, lioness, snake, the iceage tt veri cute small n big eyes animal and humans.

secondhand lions 3 and 3 quarter ---> it is like nanny mcphee n lemony snicketts type of movie. a small child abandon by his mum to live with 2 weird uncles who had disappear for 40 yrs and rumored to have kept millions of cash in their house. this is definely better den the 2 other movies. n no lion inside only one old lioness tt dies in less den 15 mins of screen time.

producers 3 stars ---> its a okay movie. i like the comedy part but i hate those musicals tt keep singing instead of talking. gosh imagine i doin tt everyday in real life.

I am simply too free so had to post this to take away 5-10 mins of my time. i am simply bored bored bored. i spend the past week battling sorethroat, super bad flu and now block nose. and of course watching dvds.

wah liao and somemore i goin ns soon. wah liao everynight i cant slp sia den visualize myself in the army uniform in 16 days time. den i also sort of prepare myself by watching war movies like saving private ryan, jarhead n behind enemy lines. its kind of psych me up. and even though i try to force myself to go train up my stamina in case i appear in the news the next day the fastest ns men to die during national service. and visualize my passport photo wit my tt bird mohth wearing a cork spects cause tts the last passport photo i take in a long time. omg i will disgrace all the decrestants of the oh family.

Fusion is finally over and now i am quietly waiting at home for my NS 2nd of June.

This week is being a damn boring week... Cause most of my friends had already started working and seldom had time to meet up or hang out together. Hais... Somehow jealously came to my mind looking at my friends who are able to start their "career" and i had to wait 2 more years and by tt time i dun tink alot of employers will wan to hire someone wit no experience and last do sth tt he learn more den 2 yrs ago... i had quite a no. of job offers but when they know u going ns they jus dun feel liek entertain u anymore... everybody is looking for girls editor, producers, graphic... but nevertheless i am glad for my friends too to be able to find a job so soon and share their experiences with me like sandy, jiayi, kaili, ade, rachael and i definely know wit ur talents u will find a job soon easily takyee hahahah so dun worry.

I went to my female cousin 21st bd las fri who happen to be in the same yr as me... Gosh its being so fast... i am able to walk into a cinema soon and watch RA movie without borrowing a friend ic... her party was er such a party... the people crowded until i and my cousins cannot even find a place to sit so we jus go there drop the gift and leave in jsut 15 mins. wah hear her goin to be a air stewardess... wah liao everybody gt job!!! n i feel like a poor out of job lazy getting fed by parents useless brat.

hope all my friends will still able to keep in touch often,,, wad i worried most is to lost a bunch of good kicking ass fun bunch of friends to time and national service.
